10 Ways Buffy The Vampire Slayer Was Almost Totally Different

2. Xander And Buffy Could Have Been Endgame

There were a lot of couples during Buffy The Vampire Slayer's run - some that people loved and some that people couldn't stand. One couple that you saw a glimpse of in the pilot that just never came to fruition was Buffy and Xander. For most of the first few seasons we witnessed a love triangle as Xander had a huge crush on Buffy while Willow longed after her childhood best friend.

We did eventually get to see what Xander and Willow would look like as a couple (it was not good!) but we never got to experience Xander explore his feelings for the slayer during the show's run - for better or for worse.

We saw Buffy share some great loves in the show - fans will argue over Team Spike and Team Angel till the end of time - and we all fell in love with Xander's relationship with ex-demon Anya. But towards the end of the show both characters became free and available for love, and Whedon noticed this.

Both Sarah Michelle Gellar and Nicholas Brendon spoke with the showrunner about exploring romantic feelings between Xander and Buffy, however it was eventually decided that the two should just stay friends.

It is crazy to think about, but ultimately having a male and female friendship with no romantic complications was far more refreshing and exciting to see on screen.

Lily thought it was about time she wrote Top Ten lists for people other than herself. She also owes her dog a lot of money so she thought it was about time to pay her dues. There is no tv show she likes that she hasn't seen at least twice.
