This has been pretty much the go-to method of writing out a Companion since Doomsday (2006). Rose, Donna, and Amy and Rory have all been separated from the Doctor with no hope of seeing him again. Its an easy way of creating a dramatic exit without going too far for a programme largely aimed at children, and would make to sense to go with a tried and true ending. If it aint broke, dont fix it. Plus it would allow Jenna Coleman to make a comeback further down the line if she wanted to. Conversely, another forced separation is unlikely because it has been done far too recently. Its certainly a plot device that works and is broad enough to have a lot of variation, but its time to give it a rest for a few Companions. Steven Moffat is intelligent enough to realise this and not add another one to the tally so quickly.
