8. New Title Sequence
Something else that has seemed to be gradually trying to find its feet over the last few years has been the Doctor Who title sequence which pretty much stayed the same - despite a few minor tweaks here and there - throughout the first three series of Steven Moffat's tenure as showrunner. By the time the Doctor returned to light up our Christmas in December 2012 they had been given a somewhat slightly underwhelming overhaul but thankfully it was one which would prove to be as short lived as the Eleventh Doctor's remaining time on our screens. One thing this title sequence did get right, though, was the inclusion of the Doctor's face which had been a staple of the Classic Series' opening sequences but one that had so far been missing from the revived show's titles. Thankfully they realised the error of their ways and revamped the titles once more to coincide with the arrival of Peter Capaldi and most importantly his face remains which probably excited fans way more than it should've. As well as being much more relevant to the Twelfth Doctor's era, the new timey-wimey title sequence has turned out to be one of the most popular yet and the brand values of Doctor Who have never been stronger. What makes them even more special is that they were designed by a fan of the show, Billy Hanshaw, whose YouTube creation came to the attention of the show's producers who promptly invited him down to Cardiff to adapt his idea for the new series. Doctor Who has always been a show for the fans made by the fans and the new opening titles can definitely vouch for that. A special mention to Murray Gold's latest reimagining of the iconic theme tune, too, which has already helped to define the Twelfth Doctor's era.
