10 Ways Doctor Who Changed In 2014

6. The TARDIS

The TARDIS also got a revamp of sorts for 2014 to coincide with the Doctor's new adventures. While the exterior of the iconic blue box will probably - and hopefully - never change, the interior has been continuously adapted and redecorated over the years to compliment each of its residing Doctors. Admittedly they haven't always been best pleased with the outcome but the TARDIS has never been one to play by the rules. The changes for Peter Capaldi's Doctor have been subtle but satisfying. While the main console area is the same one occupied by Matt Smith in his final adventures, the most notable differences this year were the inclusion of the bookcases - one of the books is The Time Traveller's Wife which was a nice touch - as well as the blackboard which is definitely in keeping with the whole professor vibe that the Twelfth Doctor's got going on. Clara most certainly thinks of him as some sort of lecturer anyway, given that he communicated with her via a blackboard during one of her dream sequences in Last Christmas. The Doctor being a teacher - though he'd probably prefer being called an 'advisor' - is a theme that's been heavily insinuated throughout this year's series and as such it was complimented by the TARDIS' latest tweaks. But what lies ahead for the big blue box next year? Well, Peter Capaldi himself had admitted that he'd like to make the TARDIS feel a bit more like home by making it more retro as a tribute to its 1960s roots, roundels and all. Is another revamp on the cards in Series 9? Only time will tell.
