10 Ways Game Of Thrones Is Basically Modern-Day Britain

7. The Scottish Wildlings

England is a divided part of the country, with the North and the South, but Scotland is a whole different proposition. They're tied into the Great British union, but that came under threat with the referendum in 2014. While north of the Wall in Westeros is technically on the same landmass, many from both sides don't want to be associated. The Wall itself is actually based on Hadrian's Wall, built in Northern England by the Romans to keep the invading Scots out. Does that sound familiar? The Scottish stereotypes are blatantly obvious in the show, with the vicious cold dominating the largely beautiful scenery. Then there are the wildlings themselves. They're tough, they're brash, and...they're ginger. Could they really be any more stereotypical than that? And they€™ve also got a fondness for mythical, fantasy beasts, much like the Scots with their Loch Ness monster. It's right there on the screen, people.
