10. Bryan Cranston (Walt) The X-Files
Vince Gilligan, the humble creator of Breaking Bad, got his start writing and producing episodes of The X-Files, at one point even working his way up to creative consultant (which I imagine to be a weird job to give someone on a show about aliens). By the end of the series' 202 episode and 9 season run, Gilligan had written 30 episodes of the adventures of Dana Scully and Fox Mulder. In early season 6, Gilligan wrote the episode "Drive" which at first glance seems a similar the plot to the 1972 Spielberg movie Duel, and featured his later leading man the episode's 'villain,' although he's much more complex and nuanced than that simple description. Cranston's character even bears an uncanny resemblance to the character of David Mann in this episode. If you're interested to see what Gilligan used to convince AMC to cast Bryan Cranston as Walter White, then give this episode a watch, as it was insturmental in Gilligan picking the central role for Breaking Bad. Cranston plays Patrick Crump, a man who must continue to drive west or his ear will explode thanks to ELF waves. Think Speed but with aliens it's just as mad as it sounds, but Cranston manages to get good dramatic mileage (pardon the pun) out of it.
