10 Ways Mad Men Could've Been Totally Different

8. Alison Brie Should've Appeared Way More

mad men trudy alison brie Trudy Campbell has been a recurring presence throughout Mad Men's seven seasons, but originally the writers planned for the long-suffering wife of the unscrupulous, deliciously balding Pete Campbell to appear more often. The pair marry in the first season and from there on out it's a rocky ride. Trudy wanted kids and Pete wanting to bang everything that moves. For the most part Pete's desire to always jump in other people's beds meant Trudy was either actively angry and wanting to keep away from her husband, or else Pete was hiding from her and so she often wasn't seen on screen. That was not the plan. Show creator Matthew Weiner has since put it out there that they planned for actress Alison Brie to become a series regular, making Trudy a much bigger part of Mad Men. Except they were sort of counting on her other show, the cult NBC sitcom Community, not to get picked up. And it did. Then it kept seeming like it was on the verge of cancellation, but the axe never quite dropped.
