10 Ways Sons Of Anarchy Must Continue

10. The Spin-Off Needs To Be Far From California

Any contemporary spin-off needs to be set as far from the northern California home of SAMCRO as possible without actually leaving the western USA. The idea of the untamed west is synonymous with the concept of the outlaw: Sons Of Anarchy wouldn€™t have worked if it was based on the east coast, the civilised urbanised cradle of the United States. The midwest is all homespun farmland; the south has its own character. But if not California, then where? Breaking Bad had the right idea. New Mexico is the perfect place to set a Mayan spin-off to Sons Of Anarchy. The Mayans control vast areas of California and Nevada, but don€™t have as large a presence in New Mexico, allowing for greater conflict. New Mexico shares borders with Oklahoma, Colorado, Arizona, Texas, two states in Mexico and Utah (via the Four Corners), and has the largest percentage of Hispanics of any state in the Union, representing the descendants of the Spaniards that colonised the area four centuries ago. It€™s famous for its arid, rugged desert scrublands €“ but New Mexico has heavily forested mountainous areas with snow-capped peaks. It€™s a different world to the permanent blue skies and long lazy roads of the Golden State, and it would bring a different feel to any spin-off, essential to giving the new show a fresh identity.
