10 Ways Sons Of Anarchy Must Continue

5. Keeping Out Of Cartel Business

The cartels operate on cocaine, for the most part. Colombia used to be the centre of cocaine production, and has only recently been matched by Peru as the world€™s biggest producer of marching powder. The Mayans, on the other hand, prefer heroin and prostitution to cocaine. It€™s possible that, in the absence of any real competing interests, the MC might have been left alone to continue trading. That climate has changed radically in the past few years, however. Opiate production in Mexico has soared, and US consumption of heroin has actually doubled between 2007 and 2013. It might be that the cartels are no longer prepared to allow the Mayans to control the heroin trade, leading to all manner of bloody shenanigans. Add to that the gang mentality and their natural recourse to conflict resolution via violent means, and you€™ve got a potential powderkeg situation. Sex trafficking is also on the rise, and the Mayans€™ other revenue stream is prostitution. While SAMCRO refused to touch drugs or girls as a rule, believing themselves above the lower kinds of victim crimes, the Mayans have no such hypocritical scruples. It looks as though the turf wars that characterised storylines in Sons Of Anarchy wouldn€™t be going away any time soon.
