10 Ways The Boys TV Show Is Different From The Comics
1. Butcher's Wife
The most dramatic alteration in the television adaptation of The Boys (so far), is the fate of Butcher's wife, Becca.
In the show, Butcher discovered footage of his wife having a meeting at Vought immediately before she disappeared. Butcher convinced himself that Vought had her murdered after she was raped by Homelander. Although Homelander did violate her, we learn at the end of the first season that Becca went into hiding when she learned she was carrying his child.
In the comic, Becca's fate is much grislier. After she was sexually assaulted, Becca became very cold and introverted towards Butcher. Even though he could tell something was wrong with her, Butcher didn't push the issue. One night, he woke up to find a superpowered fetus had burst out of his wife's womb, killing her. After a gruelling battle, Butcher beat the infant to death with a candlestick. Because the child had the same power set as Homelander, Butcher deduced that the superhero must have raped his wife.
It is uncertain why this premise was changed, but it may have been to surprise comic fans, or to avoid the cliche of a hero being inspired by the death of a loved one.
