10 Ways To Make A Great Star Trek TV Show

1. Let's Put It All Together...With A Twist

Alright, so it's in a post Dominion War Galaxy, with a crew of battle-hardened war veterans, with families or other ties to earth, and it will show a side of Trek not seen before... How about they are renegades, AWOL federation officers? The Captain and crew are members, or side with, of a group that believes that the federation has abandoned the ideals, instead of diplomacy and peaceful measures they have only seen war and destruction in their years of service. From the Borg, to the Dominion, the Klingons etc. But here's the twist, the Federation is no longer what it claims to be. Let's all remember Section 31 established in late DS9 episodes. The Federation Council seemed awfully complacent in their schemes throughout the war, one can argue that to win they had to resort to drastic and unthinkable measures. But what if at some time when the war was at its darkest hour that a military coup was initiated placing section 31 members in high-ranking positions all around the Federation, essentially controlling it? The enemy is within... and everywhere. An idea for the pilot goes something like this: a decorated Dominoin War C.O has gone off the grid, leaving behind his/her life as a Star-Fleet officer and war hero. Seemingly an effort to reintegrate battle-scarred officers, a newly-minted Captain is sent out to find him/her to try and get them to rejoin Star-Fleet. The real reason behind this, as it discovered, is to make them stop their former battle-scarred crew, now ardent members of an anti-federation group, from destroying the very fabric of subspace, the means for faster than light travel (Using the Omega Molecule concept from Voyager...one of the few interesting ideas it had), in a attempt to isolate the earth from its extra-terrestrial obligations. The beleaguered Captain does this only to find-out that he and his men are now labeled enemies of the Federation, and to be executed promptly. The younger rookie Captain sees this as a betrayal of everything that his uniform stands for, teams up with the other Captain and his crew and discovers the conspiracy at the heart of it. The Federation in under new and terrifying guidance, seeking to claim the entire weakened quadrant by any means. The drama on earth would be trying to convince the populace of the level of corruption that has infiltrated their once peace-minded Federation. With the crew's family and friends trying to stop the madness from the inside-out. A small group of Renegade officers vs. the might of the newly agressive and devious Federation, that's entertainment. Now I understand that there is a kick-starter campaign backed by former Trek stars Walter Koening and Tim Russ for an online show that they are calling Star Trek: Renegades. Now, I have no idea what the storyline will be for their online series, but Star Trek: Renegades just fits so much better for my idea! Anyone with me on that? Just for For old times sake and for anyone that hasn't seen this (If you're reading this I can't imagine why) here is a tribute to the 40th anniversary (in 2006) of Star Trek. Make sure kleenex is handy...
