4. The Kingdom/Riget

Lars Von Trier's The Kingdom, (or Riget: the original Danish title) is a strange blend of supernatural horror. It takes place in a hospital that’s mysteriously built upon some ancient site of mass death.

It plays out similarly to the drama of Twin Peaks. Just the simple and ordinary day-to-day running of a hospital workplace, but once you start to dig a little deeper things begin to take a turn for the strange.

Ghostly ambulances, noises, and cries that come from the walls and the elevator shafts. Patients who begin to report some very odd goings-on around the halls and corridors. Doctors with shady pasts, secret societies, and two boys with Down syndrome who wash the dishes but appear to know a lot more about the hospital than first appears.

The Kingdom is a weird blend of supernatural horror and soap opera style drama, all interspersed with some strange happenings in a supposedly haunted hospital.
