10 Weirdest Rick & Morty Storylines

9. Off-World Marriage Counselling

Early seasons of Rick and Morty painted a much more dysfunctional picture of the Smiths than has been the case in more recent years. The turning point was arguably when Rick sent Beth and Jerry for marriage counselling on Nuptia 4.

The therapists that had a 100% success rate used their technology to produce versions of both Beth and Jerry in the forms in which the other saw them. This resulted in a Xenomorph-esque monster Beth who was the strongest, smartest being in the universe, and a subservient and pathetic worm version of Jerry.

The two were co-dependent and went on a rampage, with Beth wanting to rule the entire universe. She began to make an army of worm Jerrys, until the real Jerry started fighting back and Beth’s mind produced a batch of muscular hero Jerrys. The mind of one of these hero Jerrys then produced a version of Beth that was genuinely a goddess. That’s how Beth’s ideal version of Jerry would see Beth.

There were a lot of layers to this story, a lot of change and physically fighting imaginary versions of two people made real by alien technology. Beth and Jerry are supposed to be two of the more grounded Rick and Morty characters, but here their story was completely nuts.
