10 WHAT IF…? Comics Marvel Needs To Adapt For Season 2
Infinite universes, but some have been explored before.
After WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Loki, the MCU's fourth Disney+ outing has been released in full. After nine episodes of What If...?, though it was by far the most inconsistent series in the franchise so far, fans have just gotten but a taste of the madness throughout the multiverse.
With endless possible realities and dimensions, there are endless stories that are there to potentially be told. Some, like the Killmonger and Thor episodes, were a let down, but one way to ensure the same thing doesn't happen in season two is to draw directly from the source material.
The What If? comics have been incredibly popular in the past, and while the MCU borrowed heavily from Marvel history for the zombie episode, there wasn't too much more taken from the comics in season one. This could, and arguably should all change in season two.
There are stories that have already proven to be winners on the page, so why not bring them onto the screen as well? Some may have to be adapted slightly to fit in neater with the wider MCU, and others may depend on the release date of other properties, but there are more than enough What If? stories Marvel Studios can pull from to ensure season two is even better than season one.
10. What If... Captain America Had Been Elected President?
This one seems like a no brainer, after one of the universes that the Watcher and Ultron's fight led through saw the exact moment Steve Rogers was being sworn into Presidency. It is already established that this has happened somewhere in the multiverse, so why not tell the story?
Once elected, Steve Rogers began making good on the promises he built his campaign around. He freed the US from dependency on foreign oil, he aided freedom fighters in their battle against tyranny in South America, and he even managed to dodge an attempt on his life.
Unable to truly let go of being Captain America, Steve went south for a meeting with San Pedro's new President, the man he helped overthrow the country's dictator. However, this turned out to be the Red Skull working a ruse to get to Rogers. The two fought before a solar beam from outer space was shot by the Red Skull, killing them both instantly. In death Steve Rogers was honoured as Captain America and as a great President of the United States.
It has been reported that season two of What If...? could focus more on character driven stories rather than the darker, action fueled episodes that led to the Guardians of the Multiverse in season one, making this story a perfect candidate to base an episode around.
