10 Worst Buffy The Vampire Slayer Episodes

1. I, Robot…You, Jane (Season 1, Episode 8)

This episode is Season 1 at its worst. Aside from a couple of amusing scenes, there’s nothing in this episode worthy of merit. It somehow manages to be both ridiculous and dull.

The central issue is that Willow is supposed to be an intelligent young lady, yet she becomes besotted with an online pen pal who’s clearly a creep. As it turns out, Willow’s new ‘boyfriend’ is actually a killer robot-demon from the fifteenth century with horrific dialogue and a laughable costume design.

And to make matters worse, far too much of the episode is spent with characters gazing at computer screens. Once you throw in the electric-shower scene, Dave’s murder, and the ridiculous climax, you’ve got a pretty poor storyline.

At the end of the episode, Willow voices her shame at having been misled so easily, whilst Buffy and Xander point out their own failed attempts at love over the course of the season. It’s a sweet end to the story but it’s not enough to redeem the rest of this atrocious episode.
