10 Worst Buffy The Vampire Slayer Episodes
2. As You Were (Season 6, Episode 15)
When Riley left midway through Season 5, no Buffy fan was sorry to see him go. But the writers decided to bring back the Slayer’s most forgettable love interest for ‘As You Were’.
The story bears almost no relevance to the rest of the season – so it wouldn’t do too much harm to simply skip it. The plot centres around Riley’s return to Sunnydale. He asks Buffy to help him hunt down a Suvolte Demon and said demon is possibly the most boring monster in the show. It’s just a noisy, sluggish brute with no dialogue or personality. And after they defeat this forgettable foe, they then have to kill its equally forgettable offspring.
It’s a dull mission, all things considered. There’s just no sense of intrigue or fun. Even Xander and Anya’s comedic personalities fall flat as they spend most of their time bickering about the upcoming wedding.
The one saving grace is the closing lines between Spike and Buffy. It’s a heartfelt moment with superb dialogue that should have been placed at the end of a much better episode.
