5. Beer Bad (Season 4, Episode 5)
But there’s another Buffy adventure which is even sillier than ‘Go Fish’. The fifth episode of Season 4 sees our central heroine consume way too much alcohol and the consequences are disastrous.
As it turns out, the beer has been tampered with by a mad bar owner who wants revenge on college kids for picking on him over the years. Before long, the students transform into Neanderthals and start roaming around UC Sunnydale. Buffy also feels the effects of the beer and has to save the day despite having the mentality of a cavewoman.
Like ‘Go Fish’, however, you can enjoy this episode once you accept how awful it is. It’s hard not to chuckle at the rampaging cavemen. And it’s also funny to see Buffy whack Parker over the head with a club at the end of the episode.
The central message of the story – don’t drink too much – has no subtlety whatsoever. And ironically enough, you would probably enjoy the episode more if you weren’t sober.
