10 Worst Buffy The Vampire Slayer Villains

6. Lyle Gorch And Candy Gorch (Season 3, Episode 5)

In the fifth episode of Season 3, Buffy throws herself into a popularity contest when she tries to become the Homecoming Queen.

But midway through the episode, Buffy’s fixation with the contest takes a backseat. After being mobilised by Mr Trick, a group of villains compete in Slayer Fest ’98 to see who can take down the Slayers.

Amongst the participants are a vampire duo called Lyle and Candy Gorch, who are also husband and wife. Compared to the other contestants – which include a German squadron, a hunter, and a spiky-headed demon – these two vampires aren’t remotely frightening. Candy is quickly killed by Buffy, and Lyle simply runs away when Cordelia threatens him. If the point of the Slayer Fest is to take down the Slayers, why would Mr Trick hire such a useless pair of vampires?

And whilst the writers probably included Candy and Lyle for a bit of comic relief, their humour wasn’t really necessary, as there are plenty of funnier moments from the other characters. Buffy and Cordelia’s tense relationship during the Slayer Fest is loaded with humour, and Xander and Willow’s awkward romance is also amusing.

All things considered, the episode would have been much better if Candy and Lyle weren’t in it.
