10 Worst Doctor Who Episodes According To YOU

5. The Long Game

Onto every Doctor's lowest-ranked episode now, starting with Nine.

Having just one series to pull from, Eccleston is at a disadvantage. Aliens of London/World War Three probably wouldn’t be here if he had another year. On the other hand, The Long Game thoroughly deserves its position, on account of it being one of the most dull portions of Who ever put to telly.

It's the single outing for failed companion Adam Mitchell, who continues his attempts to woo Rose, which are surprisingly successful given he’s basically a plank of wood with a smug face drawn on. Adam soon gets distracted however, and decides to get a data-storing orifice drilled into his forehead (which is click-activated – problematic if you’re moonlighting as a jazz musician).

Meanwhile, the Doctor and Rose head upstairs and find Simon Pegg, along with another much bigger orifice – this one screams a lot and is ceiling mounted. But the Mighty Jagrafess is no Nick Frost, and Pegg has very little chemistry with this angry CGI roof blob. He gives it a good shot, but you can’t help but wonder why The Editor wasn’t the solo big bad here – could've saved many viewers’ eardrums, and all £5 of the monster budget.

All in all, there are no standout moments, no memorable dialogue, and it all feels a bit too pedestrian. Ironically, The Long Game doesn’t seem to know where it’s going half the time, and tries to spin multiple plots that are all as soulless as each other.

It's the only true poor story for the Ninth Doctor. 12 out of 13 ain't bad!
