10 Worst Episodes In The Stargate Franchise

8. Irresponsible - Stargate Atlantis

Central to the lore of Stargate is The Ancients, with their varied and impressive technology including the very Stargate itself. After Rodney McKay is nearly killed by a Personal Shield Emitter of their design in season one, it crops up again in the disappointing and canonically baffling season three episode 'Irresponsible'.

Following on from his appearance in 'Irresistible', conman Lucius Lavin gets hold of the device and uses it to masquerade as an invincible hero, garnering fame and admiration from the small village he chooses to swindle. After short changing some Genii who are in on the charade, they contact recurring villain Acastus Kolya to exact revenge.

As charming and lovable as Richard Kind is in the role of Lavin ("I'm invincible! I can't be vinced!"), the episode quickly inspired ire when Kolya begins dunking Lavin in water to drown him, immediately retconning the shield's fatal drawback from its season one appearance. This episode also marks the last appearance and death of Kolya, who had been a thorn in the Atlantis Expedition's side for years. In what is clearly a comedy episode, the scuppering of such a worthy adversary proved decidedly anticlimactic.
