9. Urgo - Stargate SG-1

Outside of the usual story arcs of intergalactic wars and devastating threats to human life, SG-1 would occasionally throw in an inconsequential 'gag' episode, with a one time character showing up to upset the apple cart in a cheeky way, before everything goes back to normal. Urgo is one such episode.

After returning from a seemingly paradise planet with no memory of their time there, SG-1 begin collectively hallucinating a madcap computer simulation named Urgo, who relentlessly cajoles, distracts an annoys the four until, against his threats of impending death, they return to the planet to have him removed. Coming face to face with Urgo's creator, they convince him of the frustrating AI's sentience, and are summarily returned to Earth with a memory wipe and no more Urgo.

Despite casually brushing past some serious questions of consciousness and the nature of life, the episode is largely an opportunity for guest star Dom DeLuise to run rampant through a semi-improvised script and aggressively steal every scene he is in. Although perfect for the role, when your whole script is based around a character so deliberately annoying its bound to rub some up the wrong way. Like him or not, you definitely need to be in the right mood to see Urgo.
