8. Black Mirror - “Rachel, Jack, And Ashley Too
Black Mirror is an incredibly well-written series, and throughout its 22 episodes, it's been fairly consistent at producing excellent television. That being said, it's not easy to keep it up forever, and the worst episode of the series happens to be the last one aired in its fifth season.
“Rachel, Jack, And Ashley Too" features great acting from the principal players, but the script wasn't up to the standards set early in the series. The episode centers around a 15-year-old girl named Rachel, who receives an Ashley Too robot for her birthday. The robot's personality is derived from a real pop star, played by Miley Cyrus.
The real Ashley O runs afoul of her aunt/manager Catherine, who introduces mood-altering meds into her food. She added too much, and Ashley O slips into a coma. Later, Ashley Too's limiter chip is removed, which leaves it with a perfect digital imprint of the pop star's mind.
Ashley Too and Rachel head to Ashley O's place to euthanize the comatose woman, but after unplugging her, she awakens, as the machines were keeping her in a coma. Ultimately, they crash a concert featuring a holographic "Ashley Eternal," they thwart Catherine's plans, and the day is saved.
