10 Worst Futurama Episodes
1. Free Will Hunting
The concept of this episode begins with Bender deciding to do something on a whim, and if you're expecting something more structured to come afterwards, then you are bang out of luck. While the core of this episode is solid, it suffers from the damning mistake of juggling too many concepts with very little follow-through.
"Free Will Hunting" takes place after Bender enrols in college and takes out a loan with the robot mafia to pay for it. Afterwards, he drops out and gets addicted to a robotic drug called Sparks, gets robbed by girl scouts, taken to court, and judged not guilty because of his lack of free will. The episode then shows as he goes through a journey of self-discovery.
Instead of feeling like a cohesive episode, this outing feels way more akin to a collection of half-baked ideas held together by a fragile holding device. You see images like Bender joining college, becoming an addict, living as a monk and then receive flashbacks to Professor Farnsworth's past. Overall, it's so disjointed and poorly connected that it feels like a string of consciousness rather than a true exploration of the character.
Plus, while Bender has always been an anti-hero, seeing him shoot Professor Farnsworth in the climax was one of his worst acts, and it gave the ending a heartless feeling that felt out of place in the show.
