10 Worst Scrubs Episodes

1. The Blackface Episodes

Scrubs Zach Braff
NBC

2020 was a big year for highlighting racial issues in the media and, like many shows, Scrubs came under scrutiny for their use of blackface in three of their episodes: My Fifteen Seconds (Season 3 Episode 7), My Jiggly Ball (Season 5 Episode 4) and My Chopped Liver (Season 5 Episode 17). Considering the offense caused by these episodes, Bill Lawrence decided to take them down once and for all and are now no longer available to be streamed online.

Bill Lawrence also further looked to make amends by appearing on a special episode of Fake Doctors Real Friends, a Scrubs re-watch podcast hosted by Zach Braff (who wore blackface in My Fifteen Seconds and My Chopped Liver) and Donald Faison in order to start a conversation about racial problems in the TV industry and to apologise for allowing the use of blackface. Alongside them was Sarah Chalke who wore blackface in My Jiggle Ball and iHeart producer Joelle Monique.

If you are interested in hearing an honest and eye opening conversation about race and the portrayal of ethnic minorities in TV, I strongly recommend you give it a listen.

I see my role at WhatCulture the same way my wife sees my role as a lover: I contribute in a very small way, my presence is barely noticeable and I’m not entirely sure if the laughter is at me or with me.
