10 Worst Simpsons Episodes From The Best Seasons
9. Bart Gets An Elephant - Season 5
We've see the Simpsons go through some pretty wacky adventures throughout the series. Homer goes to outer space, Bart has a stalking murderer, Maggie the baby shoots an old man, Lisa has her own Malibu Stacey doll range - these are types of uncommon events which no regular family would typically experience and that's what makes The Simpsons stand out. They have the wildest rides in life and as an audience, we suspend our disbelief for it every time.
But for some reason, it's really hard to give in to the silliness of Bart Gets An Elephant. You may have guessed in this episode that Bart gets himself an elephant called Stampy after winning him a phone-in competition on a radio show.
He's not the type of pet you can warm to, in the same way you could for Santa's Little Helper or Snowball II. He's just there to inconveniently terrorize the household and cause a disturbance. You can't really laugh at him, nor can you sympathise with him. There's no connection between Stampy and Bart which is why no viewer is bothered when the family have to give the animal way.
Surprisingly, Stampy did find his way back in a couple of other episodes, such as "The Two Nahasapeemapetilons" and "Large Marge", but apart from that, this just feels like a frivolous, uninspired plot.
