10 Worst South Park Episodes
7. Chef Goes Nanners
As with almost every episode of South Park, there is a fundamentally good concept within this outing. The idea of the abhorrently racist flag of the Colorado town being replaced bore fascinating parallels to the debate raging over the Confederate flag. It could have made for some great comedy, sadly here it just felt underdeveloped.
The episode shows as Chef passionately protests for removing the town's racist flag, and a lot of community members fight back, claiming that it's a part of history and should be respected. This is offset with a school debate, in which Wendy and Cartman work together, and Wendy becomes attracted to him.
Even Stone himself claimed that this episode wasn't their best, stating that everyone just wanted to go home for the holidays. Seeing the town's characters struggle against a racist flag is pretty much the entire joke, as the two sides squabble but no real point is made, making the episode feel irrelevant.
Additionally, Wendy and Cartman's dynamic feels forced, and although the idea is amusing, it only causes a conflict for Wendy and leaves Cartman feeling very out of character.
