10 Worst South Park Episodes
6. Pip
Despite the toilet humour, foul language, and general irreverence, it is clear that South Park is a thoroughly intelligent show. It tackles prevalent issues and works hard to make a point about them, all the while utterly delivering on laughs. However, despite how smart the show may be, no one was calling for it to delve into literary parody.
Pip Pirrip was a character who always felt out of place in the show. His English accent was cause for some humour, but he was a highly irrelevant punching bag for jokes, therefore when he was the centre of an entire episode, it felt utterly unwanted.
This outing - titled Pip - acts as a retelling of the classic Dickens novel Great Expectations, for which the character is derived. It shows the early life of Pip as he works as a blacksmith and is drawn into high-society by a mysterious figure, just like the book. The show does a great job of bringing the tale to life, and even absurdly alters it. However, while general audiences might be familiar with the tale, it isn't a story that suits the show's target demographic.
The episode feels like filler and doesn't help to develop Pip, making it an ultimately futile experience.
