10 Worst TV Performances Of 2016
2. Jeffrey Dean Morgan - Negan (The Walking Dead)
There's no doubt this entry will generate a huge amount of controversy among fans of AMC's The Walking Dead, a community of people who are becoming increasingly more divided as the show goes on.
Though we're still slogging our way through season seven (and then have to wait until February for the second half - ugh), it's become perfectly clear what kind of character Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Negan is. For many who still love the show, he's a dastardly, cruel man who thrives on terrorising those around him. But for those losing or having lost faith, he's a two-dimensional construction designed purely to infuriate fans through baseless acts of brutality.
Regardless of your opinion, Negan's gimmick is painfully clear, requiring Jeffrey Dean Morgan to do little more than act like a total psychopath, spouting lengthy speeches about futility, randomly laughing to himself after every couple lines and carrying out cruel acts of violence simply because the writer's tell him to. Negan's performance mistakes cruelty for threatening characterisation, but there just isn't anything compelling (or remotely human) about it.
