10 WTF TV Episodes That Came Totally Out Of Nowhere
1. "Part 8" - Twin Peaks: The Return
Even compared to every other episode on this list, "Part 8" from David Lynch's Twin Peaks revival is a face-melting sandblaster-full of WTF.
Far beyond Lynch's typically reality-shirking standards, Part 8 was a jaw-dropper, especially for a TV episode aired on a major network like Showtime.
Filmed largely in black and white with minimal dialogue, the episode delves into the origins of Twin Peaks' villain Killer BOB (Frank Silva), created as a result of the world's first Atomic bomb test in 1945, depicted here in a stunningly surreal five-minute montage.
That's not to ignore the episode's other achievements, though, namely a murderous, lighter-craving woodsman who continually utters the phrase, "Got a light?," and the horrific closing sight of a grotesque creature crawling inside a young girl's mouth while she sleeps.
Even if you were left scratching your head by the end of it, Part 8 was a mind-blowing collision of ugly and beautiful, and one of the most consumately artful achievements of Lynch's entire career.
