10 WTF TV Episodes That Came Totally Out Of Nowhere

5. "That's My Dog" - Six Feet Under

As much as Six Feet Under was well-noted for its many WTF-worthy asides throughout its run, the season four episode "That's My Dog" took things in an altogether more unsettling direction.

The episode focuses on David (Michael C. Hall) picking up a cute hitchhiker, Jake (a brilliant Michael Weston), who turns out to be a drug-addicted psychopath.

The second half of the episode is a stomach-knottingly intense odyssey into hell as David is beaten up, bound, forced to smoke crack, and finally threatened with death.

Given that Six Feet Under is a show all about dying, it wasn't tough to believe that the episode truly would end with David's demise, but thankfully that wasn't so.

Nevertheless, watching David be soaked in gasoline and have a gun shoved in his mouth before the hitchhiker finally took off was easily the series' all-time most shocking moment.

Fans continue to debate whether That's My Dog went too far or not, some seeing it as an unnecessarily grim diversion from the show's formula, while others respected its bravery. Either way, the performances from Weston and Hall are excellent throughout.
