100 Reasons Why Lost is The Greatest TV Show Of All Time

50. Evangeline Lilly

Evangeline Lily did well not to fall in to the typical €˜love interest€™ type, matching the steel represented in her character with a burning intensity and passion that has made Kate one of the more enduring and revolutionary female leads in a television show dominated, mainly, by men. Sure, her relationship with guys is something that dominated a lot of her presence on the island, but Lilly managed to make Kate as strong and interesting as an individual as she was a romantic lead. Making sure she was remembered for much more than just the girl who got with that guy.

49. Sayid Jarrah

One of the more conflicted, action heavy and difficult to like characters, Sayid went from being awesome, to un-awesome, to awesome again whilst shooting a lot of people on the way. Driven by his desire to prove himself a good man, Sayid was often well meaning but succumbed to his particularly violent nature and was a great source of action if ever anything was moving too slowly. His back story was one of the more engaging as once more you had to try and find an ability to like a character who had committed atrocities. Despite his anger, his violence and the fact he tortured Sawyer (how could you?), Sayid found a place in everyone€™s hearts through his desperate search for peace with himself; which he eventually found when he sacrificed himself for others.

48. Charlie and Claire Remember

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WStOpoGtOGE Not much needs to be said about this scene; it€™s a beautiful moment as they both remember, they are reunited and two of our favourite characters get to be together again. People who have issues with the shows ending need only see this scene as a reason why it€™s nothing short of perfect.

47. S1E11: All The Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues

Possibly the best Jack themed episode which, although it has interesting flashbacks, is made all the better for its on Island narrative. This episode really pushed the show in a specific direction after the first half of the series of build up; the introduction of €˜The Others€™ who showed hostile intentions by kidnapping Charlie and Claire gave the show a tangible threat and gave more strength to the series€™ conclusion. Similar to this though is the discovery of the hatch, wrapped in enigma and another giant leap forward in the progression of the show and the mystery of the Island. Jack€™s journey in this episode is one that engages us and helps us believe in his strength as a leader even more so than we do already. His raw desire to catch Ethan and save both Charlie and Claire drives the episode at a breakneck pace to its beautiful, heart wrenching conclusion when he desperately tries to save Charlie; no matter how desperate it looks.

46. John Locke

A tragic figure in the Lost world, a believer in faith when everything that happened to him should have proved him otherwise; Locke was a driving force behind many of the shows key themes and plot twists. His constant battle with faith drove him to drastic points of action which led to some of the shows more interesting developments (the hatch explosion, the Orchid station), John Locke was a believer above all else and because of this conflicted often with Jack in one of the shows better inter-character relationships. His faith and his sense of entitlement sometimes grated, yet no-one could escape the fact that his stories was one of the more tragic yet instantly lovable because of it; and for that fans loved Locke up until his untimely death.

45. Ben and Locke

A conflict that remained unpredictable and exciting in equal measure. One moment their seeing Jacob. One moment Locke gets shot. It€™s an atypical back and forth between men who never really seemed to lose respect for one another; Ben€™s jealousy of Locke always prevailed through and dictated how the relationship progressed but Locke always held esteem for Ben€™s knowledge and their mutual desire to be seen as special kept them together; even if all the plot-twists suggested they should be apart. A driving force behind revelations and tense drama, these two kept the entertainment going throughout.

44. Jeremy Bentham€™s Identity

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivmOtulesWs No-one can twist a TV show on its head quite like Lost. The reveal of Jeremy Bentham was one which very few saw coming and raised numerous implications as for what Season 5 could hold; as well as questions. How did he get off the Island? They€™ve been off the Island for three years, has he been there the entire time? All just a normal season finale for Lost.

43. Charlie€™s Death

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-KaR5NUrws Beautifully anchored by Michael Giacchino€™s score Charlie€™s death was a moment of heartbreak and equal beauty as he went down doing what he said he would do; protect people. The line €˜so much for fate€™ is an impactful moment in how you perceive the rest of the show and gives us a strained acceptance of losing one of the most beloved characters.

42. Josh Holloway

Josh Holloway as Sawyer (James Ford) managed to make a character who threatened to be a bit of a dick, a funny, emotional hard ass. Subtly showing the characters weaknesses when he had to, either all out or just bubbling under the surface his is one of the more interesting performances through his subtlety and strength. The combination of the two which is what makes his performance so strong.

41. S4E01: The Beginning of The End

As season openers go, this is a particularly explosive one. Hurley€™s arrival at the beginning screaming €˜I€™m one of the Oceanic 6€™ is rife with enigma and speculation. WHO ESCAPES? I NEED TO KNOW! NOWWWW! As well as this, it doesn€™t rush is in to the people coming to the Island, it sets up the progression of the survivors we know first. The division of the group is important as they are never truly together again until the very last episodes of the show and the depth of anger that Jack feels towards Locke is important as it shows, if anything, that Jack will never ever believe in Locke... Well, that€™s the intention anyway.
