60. Charlie and Hurley
The bromantic duo to end all bromantic duos; often comic relief from the shows intense nature but never a relationship that didnt develop a bond. Charlies goodbye to Hurley, Hurley telling Claire about Charlies death and Hurleys face when he sees Charlie again in the afterlife/alternate universe are all sparks of a real connection between two of the funniest and most heart warming characters in the show; whose chemistry kept us laughing and smiling throughout their run.
59. Im One Of The Oceanic Six
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIIjD798yx0 Wow, just what a season opener this was. After being left hanging with the flash forward at the end of Season three, this exploded on to our screens and gave even more questions for the fans of Lost. Who are the oceanic six? No-one quite knows how to begin a show like Lost.
58. Each Series Brought Something New
The first had flashbacks, the caves, the raft. The second had the hatch, other survivors and flashbacks. The third had the others, the ability to see in to the future and a flash forward. The fourth had flash forwards and the boat. The fifth had time travel and the dharma initiative. The 6th had flash sideways, The Man In Black, the history of the Island. Each series added something new, a new aspect, a new place or new characters that kept the show fresh and constantly interesting. It never cashed in a working formula; it always pushed the boundaries of what it was.
57. The Final Ill See You In Another Life Brother
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycEv9QU0chU A line which was often quoted and came to define Desmond; this being said in the Finale was a lovely addition and reference to a line and character everyone loved. The situation of it all as well, Jack with a wound, walking to a place where only Desmond had survived before and Jack saying Ill see you in another life brother is a sharp realisation for us all what Jack is choosing to do.
56. Dominic Monaghan
Charlie was one of the most loved characters on the show, a lot of which was down to the actor playing him who, throughout Charlies journey, pulled off humour just as well as he pulled off emotion. Taking influences from his time on Lord Of The Rings (he referenced Andy Serkis as his inspiration for parts of his role as Charlie), Charlie the drug addict was a tragic character we always rooted for to succeed, and cried for when he didnt. But more than just that, his love story with Claire and emotional journey was expertly acted by Dominic Monaghan who always kept Charlie as real as possible; embracing the aspects of the character that defined him and using those to power his performances with belief.
55. Sawyer and Juliette
A love story that no-one could have predicted; but one that earned fan love through the two characters effortless charm and love for one another. Short lived, but as enthralling as they come, they were a delight until the tragic ending at the end of Season 5, and a couple we rooted for as the show concluded.
54. The First Scene
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUD_nieXLy4 Say what you want about Lost; but there has never been an opening scene as good as this one in any show. Explosive, frenetic, brilliantly done, a healthy amount of enigma and embracing Jack as our hero from the off; this is one of the best scenes from any TV show and right up there with Losts greatest. Its so definitive in its nature that the money shot in JJ Abrams Super 8 is weak in comparison.
53. The Island Setting
Lost is the most beautiful show ever made, and not just because of Evangeline Lilly and Elizabeth Mitchell; not only is the Island setting perfect but the utilisation of this Island setting helps raise it above other shows in terms of visible brilliance and scope. Locations such as the lighthouse, the orchid, Jacobs house, the enormous statue and the radio tower really show off the shows brilliant utilisation of the beautiful location that it is set in; and make the show visually wonderful.
52. Juliette Burke
One of the shows more interesting characters; the wariness that surrounds her entrance to Season 3 meant her character crackled with built up anticipation throughout her introductory series. Following that, and her connection with the survivors, she was a strong character who helped keep the show apace with her insight, her humour and her emotional connection to both Sawyer and Jack. Her desire to escape the Island paralleled the survivors and gave them common ground; whilst her disbelief in herself and shattered illusions about love was an interesting angle that carried through all the way to her conclusion with Sawyer.
51. S3E08: Flashes Before Your Eyes
Just, wow. Just what happened to Desmond when he turned that key? No-one cares? Well they certainly did after this episode. Something that really expanded on the mythology of the island and the powers it holds, as well as one that gives a heartbreaking revelation; this episode which sees Desmond relive the mistakes of his life before the island after he turned the hatch failsafe key is quite brilliant...confusing, but still brilliant. Both the idea of time travel and future prediction were interesting aspects to give the show here, some people called it ridiculous, however within the Lost universe and the explanation of what the electromagnetism under the hatch is capable; these two aspects didnt switch watchers off it merely made them consider what other possibilities this show could have. Furthermore, Desmond predicting Charlie is going to die is a ball buster for the legions of fans who love him, as well as a statement of intent for a series that had begun to lose its way early on.
