11 Best Doctor Who Dalek Stories

8. Revelation Of The Daleks (1985)

Revelation of the Daleks is such a strange story, even by Doctor Who standards, that of course it needs to be included among the best ones. It's never clear exactly why Davros sets his trap for the Doctor (especially that statue thingee), or what his main motives are, except for the desire to feed the galaxy its own loved ones. Yet somehow that's one of the reasons this story works so well. Davros will only ever be shown this unhinged again in The Stolen Earth/Journey's End, and pure insanity suits him, it really does. This story also provides some welcome closure to the messily plotted Resurrection of the Daleks by showing us that Davros doesn't need the Daleks to be dangerous - he's more than worrisome all on his own, even down to being able to create Daleks out of whatever's at hand, including humans. (You may have noticed that this also sets up things for Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways and for The Stolen Earth/Journey's End very nicely.) True, the only real drawback to this one is that the Daleks themselves are barely in it, but we do get hints of the setup for Remembrance, and the Imperial Daleks' disdain for Davros' Rebel Daleks will resonate right down to the New Paradigm Daleks' disdain for the Time War models. On top of all that, there are plenty of explosions, and Eleanor Bron's in it. It's fun. Even if no one gets to go to Blackpool.
