11 Best New TV Series Of 2013

9. The Returned (Channel 4, June 9th)

the returned Unlike FX's The Bridge, which is an original production based on a pre-existing premise from a foreign series of the same name, The Returned is actually just a re-broadcast of a French series, Les Revenants, an adaptation of a 2004 film, and is the first fully subtitled drama on Channel 4 in over 20 years. Not only have post-rock giants Mogwai written the series' original soundtrack, which in itself would be enough of a selling point for me, but series creator Fabrice Gobert actually commissioned the band to write it before filming commenced based on just a couple scripts. Mogwai's haunting and potent style coupled with the eerie premise of a handful of deceased individuals mysteriously returning from the dead amidst a series of other supernatural occurrences, seemingly back to as normal as they were before their untimely deaths, makes for an incredibly intriguing series, an official trailer for which can be watched here.
