10. Under the Dome (CBS, June 24th)
Admittedly, I wouldn't necessarily give this series a second thought were it not for the fact that Brian K. Vaughan is its showrunner. Don't get me wrong; Stephen King, whose novel is the story being adapted, has been responsible for a ridiculously long list of not only great books, but great source material for classic page to screen adaptations. However, because that list is so long my real draw to this project is Brian K. Vaughan, the Eisner award winning comics writer whose credits include titles for Marvel, DC, Image, Vertigo, Dark Horse, and several episodes of Lost. Most notably Vaughan is the creator of beloved comic series Y: The Last Man, Ex-Machina, the ongoing Saga, and the graphic novel The Pride of Baghdad. Vaughan's resume speaks for itself and if Under the Dome is half as good as his other works then it should still make for some exciting and dynamic television. Plus,
io9 has given the pilot a glowing, spoiler-free review calling it, the perfect King tale, as well as celebrating how effectively scary, tense, and full of potential for greatness it is.
