The episode: 'New Kid on the Block' The role: Don Rickles as Don Rickles According to lore, being a nice guy is exactly why he rejected the role written for him on The Simpsons. The original sub plot for "New Kid on the Block" was actually different to one that aired. Sea Captain, Horatio McCallister, gets sued by Homer after he is kicked out of his 'all you can eat' seafood buffet despite having not satisfied his appetite. Originally, it was to be Don Rickles opposite Homer in the court room, but not as Horatio. In the earlier script, Homer was supposed to laugh out loud repeatedly during Rickles' stand-up show, ruining the event and landing Homer in court. That would have been a nice idea, though we did at least end up with the recurring Sea Captain character as a result of him pulling out.
