1. Doctor/Master Prequel
WHY: Come now, do you
really need to ask? The dynamic between the Doctor and the Master has been one of polite civility and vengeful antagonism, always changing as the Time Lords themselves change. The Third Doctor's tenure was like something out of a James Bond film, if Bond and Goldfinger decided to play a quick tennis match before destroying each other. The Fourth Doctor's fights with the Master, meanwhile, were mostly spent with the former trying to lecture his old foe for botching his regeneration and the Fifth was almost afraid of The Master and the despicable acts he did and was capable of. The Eighth, especially during the Dark Eyes audio range, seemed weary of having to battle the renegade Time Lord again and the Tenth was ready to put their history aside and welcome him like a brother, a testament to the close bond they once shared. This is the dynamic that this spin-off aims to explore. The two Time Lords, once best friends, and now mortal enemies, but how did it all go so wrong? WHAT: Many Doctor Who episodes have hinted at the history behind Koschei and the Doctor and there have been plenty of spin-off media that tries to tell the story of their childhood and that of the Gallifrey Academy Hot Five. However, none of them have provided a canonically-accepted history of them both and this might be a chance to have a series that people can all accept and love. This may also allow the many lingering questions to be answered. How the Doctor and the Master become friends, how the Hot Five came together, how the internal politics of Rassilon, Borusa and the rest of the Time Lord society drove them apart, and most importantly, why on Earth the Master uses so many lousy anagrams as a pseudonym and why the Doctor doesn't pick up on them. Good News on this front as well - there has been a kickstarter on this very idea called
A Wild Endeavour and, while funding was unsuccessful, the creators are in further negotiations. It seems like a great idea. It'll star Yee Jee Tso, Rahul Kohli and Daphne Ashbrook, and also features the intriguing premise that the two Time Lords will not be identified until the final episode. There's always a story to tell, it seems, and this idea, at least, might just bring us a little closer to it becoming a reality.
