Sheldon's popular catchphrase, 'bazinga', made it's first appearance in Season 2's finale 'The Monopolar Expedition', and has been a staple of the show ever since. Writer and resident prankster Stephen Engel is said to have invented the term by uttering it every time he played a joke on another member of the writing team. Thus, 'bazinga' was added to the script in a last-minute decision during a producer's meeting directly before 'The Monopolar Expedition's taping. Jim Parsons says of his character's celebrated catch phrase: "I knew what it meant the moment they said it. It's like 'gotcha", you know, it's just in that energy. There's just something about it. I like it because it's not plain English in a lot of ways and that's very handy."
