11 Important Things To Remember About Game Of Thrones Before Watching Season 7

5. Sam Is At The Citadel

Although it’s easy to forget about because of more memorable moments occurring elsewhere, Sam and Gilly’s painfully dull story arc ended with them arriving at the Citadel in Oldtown.

Having stolen his family’s Valyrian sword, Heartsbane, Sam is on a mission to become a Maester and learn of a way to defeat the Night King and his army of wights. This means Sam is a pivotal player in the Game Of Thrones because he is likely to discover something which will have major ramifications for all of Westeros.

With the guide to forging Valyrian steel having been lost during the collapse of the Valyrian Freehold – the Doom of Valyria – will Sam discover its secret, or will he learn of something connected to the identity of the promised champion Azor Ahai?

Or, as speculated by many because of a Maester having helped Shireen on her deathbed, it is possible that Sam will learn of cure to Greyscale and save Jorah Mormont.

But, aside from Sam, the Citadel will be also the home of Marwyn the Mage, an archmaester speculated to be played by the versatile and famous British actor Jim Broadbent.

In A Feast For Crows, Marwyn tells the green and upcoming Maester about his encounters with the White Walkers and his intentions to meet up with Daenerys.

Both Sam and Marwyn will play pivotal roles in season 7 and beyond, and we look forward to discovering what Sam finds in the millions of chained up books.
