11 Mind-Blowing TV Long Takes
9. Mr. Robot - Eps3.4_runtime-error.r00
Mr. Robot is always prepared to push the limitations of TV. Season four's Method Not Allowed episode features an entire heist with only two lines of dialogue bookending the episode. eps3.4_runtime-error.r00 attempts the laborious task of filming the entire episode as one continuous take.
The 45-minute runtime focuses on the amnesiac Elliot figuring out what has happened the past four days before a protest ravages his ex-place of work. Juggling two separate plotlines and various locations, the episode is a master class in cinematography and editing.
The show's creators knew filming the whole episode in one shot was impossible but still pulled it off the sequence with an impressive 27 takes. The camera cleverly moves through glass and wall to create the illusion of continuous motion throughout. With suave performances from Rami Malek and Portia Doubleday and director Sam Esmail expertly leading the helm, it's no surprise the long take was an inevitable success.
