11 Mind-Blowing TV Long Takes
6. The Third Day - Autumn
As we've heard, a long shot spanning just few minutes can take weeks of meticulous planning and full dedication of the cast and crew to pull off without a hitch. So imagine the sheer amount of commitment needed to plan and execute The Third Day's Autumn: a 12-hour live-streamed episode.
The Third Day follows Sam (Jude Law) retiring to an island to grieve his son's untimely death. However, he finds that the island's inhabitants know more about his past than he realised. Autumn acts as a bridge between the limited series' two parts.
It's a mind-boggling attempt that seemingly went off without any noticeable errors. The project was headed by the award-winning theatre group Punchdrunk. Their expertise with interactive, immersive theatre paved the way to make Autumn not only a successful episode but also an international event.
Narrative-wise, it's confusing and messy. However, Autumn is by far the longest and most ambitious shot on this list.
