3. The Haunting of Hill House - Two Storms
The Crain family meet for the first time in years to prepare for a funeral amidst a storm. As the family tensions rise along with unexplained eerie happenings, the oner smoothly transitions to the family experiencing another storm at Hill House in 1992.
The takes that comprise the majority of the episode differ in focus and tone. The episode starts with the Crains coming to terms with their loss as their own relationships inevitably break down.
The camera does an incredible job slowly panning between characters as well as hiding a few ominous surprises along the way. Rejoining the family in the past, things only get tenser as the family split off into different parts of the pitch-black Hill House.
The Hill House set had to be constructed with this episode in mind in order for cast members to move between the past and present-day sets at will. Overall, it's spooky, thrilling, and ends on a pretty soul-crushing note.
