11 Mind-Blowing TV Long Takes
4. Game Of Thrones - Battle Of The Bastards
From Watchers on the Wall and Hardhome to Arya Stark escaping the crumbling King's Landing, Game of Thrones is well-known for its climatic long-takes. When the budget for one episode is in the millions, you might as well splash out a little.
And that's exactly what The Battle of the Bastards did, with spectacular results.
The gritty episode and subsequent one-take truly encapsulate the chaotic horror of war. Tricked by Ramsey Bolton to run into the middle of the battlefield, Jon Snow faces the onslaught of Bolton's cavalry on his own.
The shot only lasts a minute (starting at 3:02) but feels much longer as Jon narrowly avoids getting sliced, stabbed, and trampled amid a cacophony of blood and mud, as well as a flood of arrows raining down upon his comrades.
It's an incredible feat that the smooth camerawork visualise the battle's messiness so well. Watching men and horses fly around the battlefield like pinballs makes it feel like any of your favourites could perish at any moment. Thank goodness for plot armour.
