11 Netflix Marvel Performances The MCU Needs To Save

8. The Punisher (Jon Bernthal)

Movie adaptations of Frank Castle were kind of moody, kind of bad, kind of violent in places, but then along came the Netflix universe and with it a Punisher who can never be physically bested in the gratuitous murderous side of things. In terms of ethics, Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle had the same basic principals as your Captain America and Batman types, except you couldn't imagine those guys shivving a bad guy in the neck or shoving a grenade inside their severed head. Blood and death was a prerequisite.

With this version of the character also came a profoundly human quality which was exposed no end in the show's two seasons. Castle was an out-of-place soldier who was never granted the option of finding peace and that blend of exhausted yet terminally adrenaline-fueled was etched on his tortured face throughout the whole saga. Being a vigilante crime-fight never looked like such hard work, or with such dire consequences.

In short, Bernthal is The Punisher. Any attempt to revive the character without him at the helm would be a crying shame.
