11 Simple Fixes That Would Have Saved Marvel's Iron Fist
8. Practice The Choreography
While the show's bigger failings come on a writing level, there's also a major problem with the action scenes, which are pretty laughable.
Even though this is about the martial artist of the MCU, the scenes that we see come off far worse than those in Daredevil (I certainly know which one I'd back in a fight), often far too slow moving, and absolutely horribly edited, with more cuts than Pop's Barbershop.
One of the reasons for that is that Danny Rand isn't in his costume, meaning it's harder to disguise the stuntman filling in for Finn Jones, a problem not shared by something like Daredevil.
So, one fix would be to have him wear the costume, if you can find a way of doing it that isn't overly goofy (and to be honest, there's an argument this show could benefit from leaning into that aspect more). However, an even easier fix would be to have Finn Jones actually practice the choreography ahead of time, with the show's action issues explained in this quote from the actor (via Metro):
"But really, I was learning the fight scenes 15 minutes before we actually shot them because the schedule was so tight. So 15 minutes before the stunt director would talk me through the choreography and I’d just jump straight into it."
Unfortunately, you can really tell.
