Most TV shows have a natural lifespan. Breaking Bad chose to go out on a high after five seasons, Game of Thrones is bowing out after eight, and some are forced into ending either prematurely or long after everyone stopped caring.

For The Walking Dead, there is no end in sight. Even with a decline in viewers it's still one of the biggest, most-watched shows on TV, and AMC's biggest cash-cow by some distance.

As it stands, there isn't an obvious goal the show is working towards. They've previously spoken of going to *at least* Season 12, while last year AMC CEO Josh Sapan said: [The Walking Dead] has incredible long life left in it," and will likely stay on the air for "many, many more years." He then compared it to Stark Trek, which has been running on-and-off for for over 50(!) years.

Also last year, AMC's president of original programming said it largely depended on the comics. Given Kirkman has spoken of going to 300+ issues, there's no real end in sight there either. The Walking Dead is gonna outlive us all.
