11 Times The Walking Dead Said F**k You To The Fans

1. Carl's Death

The Walking Dead has killed off a lot of characters for reasons wrong and right, including some major characters. But no death has been both huge and utterly stupid in the same way as the killing of Carl Grimes was.

Alongside Rick - and arguably even more so - Carl was the show. Sure, as a character (and for Chandler Riggs as an actor) there were growing pains, but it was forgivable because of how intrinsic he was to the plot and other survivors.

Not only was it another dragged out death (they left it hanging over the mid-season break) and a lean into the old shock value habit of the show, but it robs Rick of his entire purpose. Carl was the future of this world, and the reason Rick kept on fighting, as well as having some big moments from the comics to hit. Without Carl, Rick has nothing to fight for and it's hard to see what the future of the show is other than more of the same.

It may have been shocking, there might even have been emotional in his goodbye episode, but ultimately it's a cheap trick that undermines years of investment in the series and is, quite easily, the biggest f**k you to fans.
