12 Actors Who Hated Being On Star Trek

4. Jeri Ryan

Seven of Nine Jeri Ryan

While the franchise is currently enjoying the glorious return of Seven of Nine and Jeri Ryan, her first stint on the show was not a pleasant one. She was brought in at the beginning of Star Trek Voyager's fourth season in an open attempt to boost flagging ratings, replacing Jennifer Lien's Kes, who producers felt wasn't hitting the right notes with the audience.

The cast initially struggled to warm to her and she has been quoted on several occasions speaking about how another actor made her life quite difficult on set.

That actor was Kate Mulgrew. She had been hired as Star Trek's first leading female captain and she felt that the progressive moves of the producers began to fall by the wayside once the character of Seven appeared. She has been open about her coldness to Jeri Ryan on set, making their scenes together (many of which are tender) all the more resonant when one takes into account the tensions behind them.

Robert Beltran was also not a fan of the character was not shy about making his feelings known. Thankfully, in recent years the cast seem to have buried the hatchet and as there is now talk of a documentary to celebrate Voyager's 25th anniversary, perhaps this is an aspect of the show that will be explored in greater detail.
