Though Buffy the Vampire Slayer ended up running for seven seasons from 1997 to 2003, according to star Alyson Hannigan, lead Sarah Michelle Gellar was "annoyed" to be on the show less than mid-way through its run.

Hannigan claims that Gellar was becoming fed up of playing Buffy by season three because she "had a big career going" and appearing on the show "was a lot of work."

Gellar herself has been critical of the show's controversial, bleak sixth season, which she felt undermined a lot of what Buffy originally represented: "I felt it betrayed who she was."

To the actress' credit, you wouldn't really guess her frustration from her consistently entertaining performance throughout even the later seasons. Clearly, she was enough of a pro to commit herself despite the demanding nature of starring in an action-heavy TV series.
