12 Actors Who Want To Return To Doctor Who

As mentioned, the Seventh Doctor's era had just hit its stride when the show was cancelled in 1989, and Sophie Aldred's Ace was a big reason why it worked.

Replacing the far-less-likeable Mel Bush and bringing a fresh vibe to the TARDIS, Ace also set the precedent of the Doctor having a trendy, contemporary-Earth companion, a formula that the entirety of NuWho has stuck with.

Because of this, Ace feels like a great fit for a modern return, and Aldred herself agrees. In 2020, she told Radio Times that she would "love" to come back, and that it's something the fans want:

"I’d love that. I hope the door is open. I’ve never met Chris Chibnall, but I would love to meet him and talk to him about that possibility. I’ve always been a real advocate for the fans of the programme, and new people as well. What could Ace provide for new watchers of the show, for new viewers of the show? And certainly, the fans would be absolutely thrilled, I think."

At the end of the day, who doesn't want to see Ace beat up more Daleks with her baseball bat?

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
